Music goes hand in hand with fashion, so it's rare that I wake up or work without it. From an early age I realised rock'n'roll had won my heart.
The 'Rock Princess' concept came about by randomly reflecting on childhood dreams and aspirations:
'What if all the Disney princesses became punk rockin' queens?!'
With visions of the most recognised female characters in this way, I wrote the concept down and let my favourite musical muses and imagination play in order to create sexy, strong, colourful, fun silhouettes with lush, luxury fabrics - the finest European silks, embellished laces, beads and sequins - all handmade in London.
Finding a source of symbolism between each princess and musician became a nostalgic and playful project as well as a stimulating puzzle putting together an eclectic mix of grown up icons with Disney's best babes. A favourite song, Debbie Harry's 'Dreaming' naturally led to Sleeping Beauty; my love for Scottish tartan connected Shirley Manson and Merida from Brave; while I saw Tina Turner's golden micro minis mimicking Pocahontas' tunic.
The moral of this tale is an creative reminder that what you think you see is not what you get. Many characters create an individual, so enjoy and live happily ever after.
